Polar Plunge Rolla

Thanks to 112 plungers who raised $20,000 for Special Olympics athletes!

This "unbearable" event is a unique opportunity to show your bravery as you support local Special Olympics athletes by walking, running or crawling into the frigid winter waters. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics Missouri’s year-round program of sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

New in 2014, the Rolla Plunge will be hosted at the "Home of The Fugitive Run; Mud Obstacle Course." This Plunge is unique from the beginning: it will be held at a quarry and is being built for schools and students. The Cool School competition will reward the schools with the largest fundraising total, the largest team, and the best costumes. Registration is open to anyone 10 years of age and older and who raise the minimum of $75. The public is welcome to participate as well, but students and schools are our focus. The Missouri Association of Student Councils (MASC) is Special Olympics Missouri newest partner who encourages students to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics.

Calling all Schools – come one, come all. We can’t wait to see your team raise funds, select a costume/theme, and plunge on Feb. 15. Compete for Cool School title (Middle School/High School Division) and University/College Division and show your team spirit. Check out the details or contact Dana Thielemann, Cool School intern at dltwd5@mst.edu.

Calling businesses and organizations as Plunge Sponsors – We are looking for community businesses who want to get behind this fun, high-profile event with great media coverage. Thank you to Results Radio, Rolla Daily News, and Fidelity Cable who have signed on as our media partners! Please contact Stacy Jones, SOMO at 314-973-9268, sjones@somo.org or Lt. Steve Davis, MSHP Troop I at 573-368-1838, for more details.

Participants must be at least 10 years old and raise a minimum of $75 by event day. The Polar Plunge is a project of the Law Enforcement Torch Run(R) for Special Olympics Missouri. Rolla Police Department and MSHP Troop I are proud to host this event.

You may mail offline donations to: Special Olympics Missouri, 1001 Diamond Ridge, Suite 800, Jefferson City, MO 65109. Please include your name in the memo line of checks.
